Ad Exchange-Publisher leaks cookies, evades blocking.

Ad Exchange-Publisher creative settings results in 3rd-party cookie blocking evasion and leaks.

The OpenX Ad Exchange which provides Real-Time Bidding services is cooperating closely with its publishers, as a recent observation shows. The way the domain name system is being used, browser blocking of 3rd-party cookies seems to be bypassed as a side effect.

Unrelated cookies such as Google Analytics, are being sent to 3rd-party sites, like OpenX, due to broad cookie scoping and the setting of DNS aliasing, as the full report states.

Urgent - Saravá Group is about to lose its main server!

Urgent - Saravá Group is about to lose its main server!

Due to a lawsuit running in secrecy of Justice against Radio Muda, the oldest independent radio station working in Brazil, Saravá's main server is settled to be confiscated this next Monday, April 28th. Sarava is a research group that for the past 10 years have offered technological infrastructure, political thinking and autonomous and secure communication sources freely to research groups and social movements.

Radio Muda has had its equipment confiscated once before in Februrary 24th of this year[1]. As the litigation went on, Prosecuting Attorney Edilson Vitorelli Diniz Lima from the Public Prosecutor's Office , signed a request for the server aiming for the radio's site data that might identify it's members.

Sarava's sever is located at the State University of Campinas - Unicamp, and hosts the radiolivre.org platform, including Radio Muda's website, it also hosts many different research projects related to Unicamp and other public Brazilian universities.
Sarava is a research group that for the past 10 years have offered technological infrastructure, political thinking and autonomous and secure communication sources freely to research groups and social movements [2]. In 2008, one of its servers has been confiscasted and it hasn't been returned since [3].

Just now, as the Marco Civil Internet Bill has passed[4], and as Brazil's hosting a World International Internet Meeting (Netmundial) and is trying to pass on the idea of being the one holding country that holds the state-of-the-art legislation towards internets privacy, freedom and security, we face once more an attempt of data theft, undermining the privacy of research projects and the free acess to information, with the closure of discussion lists, sites and other tools.

We say the decision of breaking the confidentiality of our communication following the Public Prosecutor's Office lawsuit is disproportionate . Afterall, the server has no record that could identify its users as part of its Privacy Politics[5].
We ask for solidarity from all groups, individuals and institutions that fight for a free society and internet. Next monday, April 28th at 1:00 PM (Local time, GTM-3h), there will be a demonstration in front of the Data Processing Center from the Filosophy and Humanities Institute building at Unicamp, all support will be welcomed. Our hatred towards this act will be shown throughout social networks and messages to Public Prosecutor's Office all over the internet.

#SaravaLivre, #netmundial1984, #sarava, #privacidade, #OurNetMundial,
#marcocivildainternet
We demand the immediate interruption of police's attempts against Saravá's Group server and its users data.

Puscii and pinknoise are broke, come party with us.

Puscii used to run Utrechts first public internet workplace in the Ubica squat (RIP). Since our retreat to virtual realms, we run a server to provide web hosting, e-mail, mailinglists, streaming, etc. to anarchist groups, hackers, freaks and other sorts of people like us. We do our best to keep your data safe from the prying eyes and ears of state and capital, using cryptography wherever possible. Alas, servers ain't cheap, so we're chronically broke and depend on you to come party with us! Pinknoise is a DIY media collective, doing ad-hoc live reporting with pirate radio, audio- and videostreams. Together with Puscii we've done live reports on stuff like the Ubica eviction, NoBorder camp, Pinksterlanddagen and numerous other events, discussions, demonstrations and actions. We need you to get drunk on cocktails, so we can buy (better) gear and stay lo-fi out of punk principle, but not out of necessity.

How much are you worth?

Webadvertising is a tricky and dirty business. Webpublishers, dataminers and advertisers are running around the clock making as much money as possible from so-called 'user profiles' A user profile is you, the reader. Wether you like it or not, your daily usage of the interwebs did make you a profile, even if you did not sign up for anything or use a pseudonym. Your profile is then actively traded and paid for, continously. Inria, a collective from France, has been able to break this process open a little bit, and developed a method to determine how much your profile is being sold for. You’ve probably heard the following statement: “IF YOU DON’T PAY, YOU ARE THE PRODUCT!“ In fact, when you are using the internet, chances are high that your private data are being sold to advertisers. This information is often used to deliver targeted ads. The price paid by advertiser to deliver an ad actually depends on the user’s profile and interests. The goal of this project is to evaluate how online advertisers value users according to their profiles, including their web history, interests and locations. It was found out that the price paid to serve an ad is very low and is equal, on average, to approximately $0.0005!!! … but the price of your private data can be much lower or higher according to the value of your profile. How it works So how is your profile being valued and sold? Corporations like Google offer the opportunity to sell the profiles they gathered in a so-called RTB process, where advertisers can bid for placement of their targeted ads. After a RTB (Real-Time Bidding) auction took place, the Ad Exchange usually informs the winning bidder about the price it has to pay by sending it a price notification. Many such notifications happen through users’ browsers, and leverage this feature to capture winning prices. These prices reflect how advertisers evaluate the value of each individual user according to their profile. Users’ profiles are typically built by advertisers by tracking users’ browsing activities across the websites on the Internet. Plugin To give end users insight in how their profile is being traded and sold of as a commodity, Inria developed a funky plugin. The plugin collects the prices paid by advertisers to deliver ads to YOU. It then computes the average value and your rank within the participating users. You will then be able to see how valuable your data profile is compared to others. Privacy policy The plug-in only collects winning prices in Real-Time Bidding (RTB) auctions. Each user is identified by an identification number which is randomly generated by the plug-in at installation. Data sent to the projects servers is composed of this identification information, the collected prices and advertisers’ domains (e.g. criteo.com) and HTTP parameters whose values contained clear-text prices (e.g. “wp=”). This information is used to compute various statistical values that are displayed to users. Only the advertising prices are collected, and not (and actually don’t even see) any other information related to your online activities, such as the sites that you are visiting. For more information, and to install the plugin, visit: http://yourvalue.inrialpes.fr/ https://team.inria.fr/privatics/yourvalue/ Please spread this story and the links

"Agent dreigt hoster zonder vordering." Bikefest is een evenement rond duurzaamheid, fietsen en 'Do It Yourself'-klussen.
Wondering... Whither Occupy Wall Street, by Bruce LaBruce

Whither Occupy Wall Street? No, not “wither,” as in “shrivel and die.” You’d be an idiot to wish that, considering that, as far as anti-establishment rebellions in America (and parts of Canada) go, it’s currently the only game in town. Whither, as in “to what place or state,” where is it headed? Will it become a full-blown insurrection (implying a violent uprising of some sort), or will it remain a shambolic, undisciplined, hippie-dippy free-for-all, distinguished by neither intent nor style? Angela Davis argued in the 60s, in terms of the black struggle, that a society that embraces a philosophy of non-violence is a society that embraces the philosophy of suicide. She argued that if your baby is in a burning house, you do not snatch that baby from the fire gradually. You do not snatch that baby from the fire moderately. You fucking snatch that baby. She was a brilliant and persuasive rhetorical speaker (something that has been noticeably lacking among the Occupy Wall Streeters), and perhaps she had a point: OWS, at this stage, anyway, is definitely made up of a bunch of moderate baby-snatchers. Now I’m not advocating violent revolution (necessarily), and I’m certainly not saying that violent revolution is sexy. But so far, OWS is definitely not the sexiest revolution I can think of. It’s a grass roots, populist protest (more like a complaint, really, which is never sexy) made up of all kinds of people, from laid-off autoworkers to irate grandmas who can’t afford their medication to debt-ridden students with no prospects for the future. But this is hardly the stuff of hardcore militancy that brings down fraudulent governments or blood-sucking financial institutions. It may be a little late in the game to be playing the “We Are the World” card. The people in the financial sector – the Wall Street bankers and hedge fund managers and the corporate media barons - who have forced out the 99 percent have demonstrated themselves over and over again to be textbook sociopaths, and they’re not about to give up power and privilege so easily. And the political system that they have so thoroughly influenced and corrupted for their own nefarious purposes is not going to be changed from the bottom up by a motley crew of well-intentioned liberals. Occupy Wall Street, of course, started not in America in the fall, but in the Middle East with the Arab Spring, followed by the Greek and Spanish summer, where tent cities sprung up in cities such as Barcelona as early as May. (Leave it to New York to take all the credit.) Now the Arab Spring seems to be on permanent summer vacation, with power being shuffled from one neo-liberal entity or entrenched military institution to another, and the spontaneous complaints choirs of southern Europe seem to be languishing a bit too, probably owing to protest fatigue. The real, heavy-duty occupations that, strangely, no one in America seems to be talking about, took place in France in 2009 when unions started to occupy factories and hold oblivious corporate bosses hostage in order to have their demands met in scenarios straight out of Godard’s labor liberation epic, Tout Va Bien. In fact, there were much bigger and more violent worldwide demonstrations than OWS, many of them labor-oriented, after the economic collapse of 2008, but they were largely ignored by the mainstream media so you probably didn’t notice. All I’m saying is you’re going to have to ramp it up, people. Rome wasn’t burnt down in a day. The impending general strike in Greece protesting the severe austerity measures that threaten to shut down the country is certainly a step in the right direction. General strikes are always sexy. Charismatic leaders might help, and so might a bit of attention paid to styles of radical will. (Sorry to cite Sontag, but you must admit she did have good titles.) It’s easy to dismiss a bunch of unwashed, directionless ragamuffins chanting time-worn protest slogans like “the whole world is watching” (that is, if they’re not watching Hollywood real estate porn or Real Housewife franchises) or “shame on you” (which sounds a bit too much like a disappointed mother, especially when directed toward a cop in full fascist attire violently macing a clueless co-ed). It’s a bit more difficult to dismiss someone who has a fistful of brilliant manifestoes and a manifestly militant, stylish posture. I was roundly pooh-poohed when I tweeted this week that style is an essential component of any revolution. I said it with a certain amount of flippancy, but deep down I believe it to be true. One only has to look as far as the Red Army Faction or the Black Panthers to understand the power of style. (And I’m not talking about fashion, because as we all know, fashion is counterrevolutionary.) Of course the former was an extreme left-wing terrorist group that blew up buildings and killed people, and the latter a militant, insurrectionary, black nationalist Marxist organization that armed themselves with Colt .45s and shotguns, but let’s not split hairs. Actually, when you look at the political platforms of both the RAF and the Panthers, they really weren’t that far from what the OWSers are asking for: a more equal distribution of wealth, support for disenfranchised minorities, and an end to the corporate control of the government and media. The difference is they believed they were at war, and that their aims had to be obtained by any means necessary. Plus, they were more stylish.
Radio!
